Yorba Linda's Citizen of the Year Mike Shanahan, who is retired for the Tustin Police Department.

It is questioned whether Yorba Linda resident Mike Shanahan sleeps.

Shanahan has been named the 2011 Yorba Linda Citizen of the Year. Shanahan, who was selected by a Blue Ribbon Committee, will be recognized at the Nov. 1 City Council meeting.

Receiving multiple nominations for the award is unusual, said Lauren Marshall, management assistant – Shanahan received 11. He has also been nominated every year since the award was brought back in 2004. This is his first time winning.

“I’m almost embarrassed,” Shanahan said. “There are many, many people who are far more deserving of this award than I am.”

Dana Point Police Services Honored by California Crime Prevention Officers Association

The California Crime Prevention Officers Association honored Dana Point Police Services last month for the successful “Hide It, Lock It, or Lose It,” campaign that has dramatically reduced property crime in the city.

The Crime Prevention Program of the Year Award was presented at the CCPOA’s annual awards luncheon in La Quinta. The award is given to one law enforcement agency in California each year to recognize outstanding performance in achieving crime prevention objectives.
