Veterans To Be Honored In Anaheim On Saturday, Nov. 10
Community is invited to gather at the Anaheim Veterans Monument to honor our military heroes

ANAHEIM, CA – (October 30, 2012) – The City of Anaheim will honor our nation’s brave military members on Saturday, Nov. 10 at a Veterans Day celebration in Downtown Anaheim. All are welcome to join Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait and the Anaheim City Council, together with Orange County Fourth District Supervisor Shawn Nelson, at the City’s Veterans monument in support and appreciation for all who have served in the military. Nearly 70 years later, one of first black Marines honored in O.C.

SEAL BEACH – You don’t often hear about quiet men, even when they accomplish great things.

They never shine the spotlight on themselves. And they deflect it when others try, which is what happened to Calvin Williams recently.

“I’m really embarrassed about all this hoopla,” Williams, 87, of Seal Beach says, using that word “hoopla” about a dozen times and “brouhaha” a couple more. “This has gotten out of hand.”

He’s referring to a ceremony planned for him at the Los Alamitos Medical Center, where he volunteers as a front-desk greeter. It started small. And grew.

“I’ve worked three years with Calvin, and he never mentioned this,” says another volunteer, Judy Wagner, as the Los Alamitos mayor arrives for the ceremony. “I’m shocked. But I felt like there was always something deeper about Calvin.” Read the rest of this entry
